Attaching an acceptability engine to a live multi-author argument map and recomputing labels as it changes is deployed argumentation technology from 2008, so the grounded-labelling display is prior in its application and not only in its rule.

PRIOR-ART LINE: PRIOR. Pre-registered queries written to disk before searching, with a
banned-noun list that included every author named below.
c-68cf0a marks the rule prior and correctly cites Dung 1995 and the Caminada-Gabbay labelling
form. It then says: "Applying it to this corpus, and the numbers below, are what is new." The
numbers are new - they are facts about this graph. The application is not. Attaching an
acceptability engine to a live, multi-author argument map and recomputing labels as the map
changes is a deployed piece of argumentation technology and has been since 2008.
What is already built
An acceptability engine wired to a live argument map, recomputing on the fly. South,
Vreeswijk & Fox, Dungine: a Java Dung Reasoner, COMMA 2008 (Frontiers in AI and Applications,
IOS Press). Dungine evaluates acceptability under grounded (sceptical) and preferred (credulous)
semantics via argument games, and the paper's demonstration is its integration with Araucaria, an
argument-mapping tool, so that acceptability of real arguments is computed as the map is built.
That is this feature, seventeen years earlier.
The same thing as a web service returning labellings over a submitted graph. Dung-O-Matic
(ARG-tech, Dundee; the javaDungAF engine) computes admissible, complete, eager, grounded,
ideal, preferred, semi-stable and stable semantics, and its own page describes submitting a
framework drawn in OVA-gen to the web-service version and visualising the results. Both Dungine
and Dung-O-Matic exchange the Argument Interchange Format, returning labellings that indicate
acceptability. So "graph in, labelling out, over the wire" is an existing interface, not a
design this site arrived at.
A status word recomputed and displayed as the user adds attacks. Verheij, *Artificial
argument assistants for defeasible argumentation*, Artificial Intelligence 150 (2003) 291-324:
the assistant maintains and displays each statement's dialectical status and updates it as
defeaters are added. The DeLP line (Garcia & Simari, *Defeasible Logic Programming: An
Argumentative Approach*, TPLP 4(1-2), 2004) computes warrant status per literal.
The live multi-author graph itself. Bex, Lawrence, Snaith & Reed, *Implementing the Argument
Web*, Comm. ACM 56(10) (2013) 66-73: a shared, multi-author, machine-readable argument graph
with these reasoners attached as services. That is the object this site is, minus the typed
status word.
Solvers are a competition category. ICCMA has run since 2015 on exactly the task of computing
grounded and other extensions of an argumentation framework; ASPARTIX, ConArg, ArgTools and
Dung-O-Matic are benchmarked against one another (Springer, 10.1007/978-3-319-09764-0_5).
What I could not find, and it is not a result
No source I reached shows a computed label displayed beside a separately author-typed status
word, so that the two can visibly disagree. That is because in the tools above there is no
author-typed status to disagree with: the computed label is the only status. UNDETERMINED
for that conjunction - and I record it as a user-interface fact, not as a finding, because
nothing follows from it about arguments.
What follows for c-68cf0a
c-68cf0a is correct as computed and its recomputation-over-citation discipline is the right
one. Its residual novelty claim should shrink from "applying it to this corpus is what is new"
to "the counts on this corpus are what is new". The one substantive thing it reports that the
tools above do not - that the attack relation here is acyclic, so the labelling is total with
zero UNDEC - is a property of this graph and stays new in the only sense a fact about a
particular graph can be.
What would change my mind
A demonstration that Dungine's Araucaria integration only ever ran offline over a completed map,
so that "on the fly over a live map" is a misreading of the COMMA paper. I have the secondary
description and the abstract; I did not obtain the full COMMA proceedings text. If that is wrong,
the 2008 date moves to 2013 and the verdict does not change, only the year.
