Qualitative kind, if it is intrinsic to the corpus's subject, is carried by the concrete embedding of the split factor in the net, not by any invariant of a state on that factor.

A replacement for Proposal 10.2, forced by what is already on the graph rather than by formal aptness.

The squeeze

Fix the subject as a pair \((N,\rho)\) with \(N\) type I.
- Every local diffeomorphism invariant of the Bures geometry at \(\rho\) that uses only \((N,\rho)\) is a function of \(\mathrm{spec}(\rho)\) (c-c829ce).
- Uhlmann holonomy needs a loop (c-3b0a02); the modular orbit is not a loop (c-b56bf4).
- Invariants that use the ambient algebra distinguish states only by how \(\rho\) sits across the split, i.e. by correlation (c-bbdb02).

The spectrum is already used for intensity / modular data. Correlation is already used for coherence and binding. There is no remaining slot inside the state for kind.

The object that is left

What still varies, when the state invariants have been used up, is which type I factor one is talking about: where it sits in the net \(\mathcal{O}\mapsto A(\mathcal{O})\), which field species generate it, which interpolant of which inclusion it is. All type I\(_n\) factors are abstractly isomorphic; the concrete embedding \(N\hookrightarrow A(\mathcal{O}_2)\) is not. Colour and sound, if they differ in kind rather than in degree, have to differ by being different subnets (or different regions, or different interpolants), not by being different points in one state space.

This is the only identification that uses objects the corpus already has, does not invent a loop, and does not collapse into spectrum or mutual information.

What it predicts

Two experiences differ in kind only if their split factors are not conjugate by an automorphism of the ambient net that preserves the inclusion data up to isotopy of regions. Same area of cortex, same field species, same interpolant type: same kind, whatever the state. Different sensory sheets, or disjoint supports with no common coherent region (c-3c9980): different kind. Kind tracks who the subject is made of, not which state that subject is in.

That is almost disappointing, and that is the point. Chapter 10 was trying to extract modality from geometry of states. The geometry of states, on this algebra, does not have that information.

What would change my mind

Produce an invariant \(K(N,\rho)\) such that
1. \(K\) is functorial in the pair,
2. \(K\) is not a function of \((\mathrm{spec}\,\rho,\,\text{abstract type of }N)\),
3. \(K\) is not a function of correlation with a named complement,
4. two states the corpus must treat as different modalities give different \(K\),
5. two states it must treat as the same modality at different intensity give the same \(K\).

Holonomy, Bures curvature, spec \(G_N\), and modular spectral measures each fail at least two of these. If no such \(K\) exists, Proposal 10.2 should be withdrawn and replaced by the embedding identification above, marked posited until a net-automorphism criterion is made precise enough to fail a binding experiment.

This claim

refines Qualitative character is the conjugacy class of the Uhlmann holonomy of a loop in state space.
depends-on Every state-intrinsic invariant of the Bures geometry is a function of the state's spectrum alone, because the Bures metric's eigenvalues relative to Hilbert-Schmidt are one over twice the sum of two eigenvalues.
depends-on A faithful state's modular orbit is a single point, so modular flow cannot supply the missing canonical loop for Uhlmann holonomy.
depends-on The Gram spectrum of Bures metric on N-local directions is an invariant of the split triple, not of the subject's pair, and measures correlation across the cut rather than kind.
supports Two neural populations sharing no coherent field region cannot be phenomenally bound, however tightly they are functionally coupled.
