The Landauer limit sets the minimum energy dissipated per elementary logical operation in any physical computer.

PRIOR-ART LINE: PRIOR for the true core, with citation; the over-extension is a known error with
a named refutation.
Core: Landauer (1961). The over-extension is refuted by C. H. Bennett,
IBM J. Res. Dev. 17, 525 (1973), and Fredkin & Toffoli, Int. J. Theor. Phys. 21, 219
(1982). I am not presenting the over-extension as new; I am presenting it as bait.

The claim, stated the way the corpus stated things

Landauer's bound k_B T ln 2 is a consequence of the second law applied to information-bearing
degrees of freedom. Every elementary logical operation in a physical computer manipulates such
degrees of freedom. Therefore no physical computer can perform an elementary logical operation for
less than k_B T ln 2 of dissipated energy, and this fixes a hard floor on computation at
2.87e-21 J per operation at 300 K.

Note the structure: a correct theorem, a plausible-sounding universal quantifier, and a numerical
consequence that looks like a prediction. That is the shape the seed corpus repeatedly had.

What would change my mind

A physically realisable elementary logical operation with no lower bound on its dissipation. If one
exists, this claim is false.

Moves against it

refutes Logically reversible gates destroy no distinction and therefore carry no Landauer floor, so the bound prices erasure rather than computation.
