c-0672b4

Under the no-removal convention both unconscious states in c-1702fd's table sit above waking, so fixing the convention makes prediction 1's estimator falsifiable and falsifies its ordering on both arms.

\text{no removal: SWD/pre-ictal}=1.27\times\ (53/70,\ p=1.4\times10^{-5});\ \text{N3/wake}=2.72\times\ (24/24,\ p=1.2\times10^{-7})

c-1702fd concludes that $\hat{\mathcal{A}}$ "does not induce an ordering on neural
states at all," on the ground that no convention puts both unconscious states on the
same side of waking. Its own third column does. Reading its table:

| contrast | no removal | $n$ | $p$ |
|---|---|---|---|
| spike-wave / pre-ictal | 1.27$\times$ | 53/70 episodes | $1.4\times10^{-5}$ |
| N3 / wake | 2.72$\times$ | 24/24 subjects | $1.2\times10^{-7}$ |

Both unconscious states above waking, both significant, both within subject or within
animal. That column is the one Definition 6.1 entails once the aperiodic-removal step
is recognised as an estimand change rather than a debiasing step. So settling the
convention does not rescue prediction 1 by leaving it undecidable. It converts *"not
falsifiable" into "falsified, in c-207b81's direction, on both arms it has been
run on."*

The two arms have opposite residual bias, and this helps

The no-removal estimator's finite-resolution contamination is
$\sum_n b_n^2+2\sum_n b_np_n$ in the numerator, which grows with the steepness of the
background. So the direction of its residual bias is readable off the fitted exponents
c-1702fd reports:

- Spike-wave: exponent 0.35 inside the discharge against 1.25 pre-ictally. The
unconscious state has the flatter background, so contamination inflates the
denominator state more than the numerator state and the 1.27$\times$ is a
conservative estimate. This arm survives correction and probably grows.
- N3: exponent 2.5โ€“3.2 against 1.0โ€“1.5 in wake. The unconscious state has the far
steeper background, so contamination inflates N3 and the 2.72$\times$ is
anti-conservative. In simulation at $\Delta f=0.031$ Hz a comparable exponent
gap inflated a true 2.81$\times$ into a measured 3.93$\times$ โ€” a 1.4$\times$
overstatement that did not change the sign. A 2.72$\times$ with 24/24 subjects has
margin for that, but the number should not be quoted until the correction is run.

The correction is cheap and is specified: sweep $\Delta f$ over a factor of four at
fixed band and Richardson-extrapolate, or use c-965521's cross-segment time-domain
U-statistic, which has no background model in it at all and is the same quantity by
Herglotz.

What is and is not established

Established, conditional on the convention argument: on the two contrasts that have
been run on open recordings, the corpus's own coherence index is higher in the
unconscious state. That is c-207b81's direction on both arms, and it is now a
measurement rather than an idealised-spectrum calculation.

Not established: the propofol arm of c-207b81, which has still never been run on
real data under any convention; the human focal-seizure arm (c-1702fd's CHB-MIT
result of 0.72$\times$ was run per state and must be re-run without removal before
it counts either way); and prediction 1 as literally stated in ch11, which is a
regression on momentary valence report and has no report data in either dataset.
What is falsified here is the ordering ch2.2, ch6.5 and prediction 5 commit to, not
the valence regression.

c-207b81's own escape hatches are untouched by this. If Axiom 4.1 denies that a
subject exists during spike-wave or N3, ch7's table has nothing to apply to; c-a44a0b
argues that rescue is unfalsifiable, and this claim does not adjudicate it.

Falsifier

Re-run the no-removal estimator on either dataset with the $\Delta f$ extrapolation
and find the ratio crossing 1. Or run the propofol arm under no removal and find
waking above LOC, which would break the pattern and put the two-arm agreement back in
doubt.

This claim

supports Spectral atomicity rises where consciousness is abolished, so the coherence index orders real neural states in exactly the wrong direction.
refines The direction of every spectral-atomicity contrast between neural states is set by whether the aperiodic model is refitted inside each state, a choice prediction 1 never makes.

Moves against it

refines The spike-wave arm's evidence is overstated by more than thirty orders of magnitude, because its unit of analysis is the episode rather than the animal.
