Panpsychism, given the algebra of quantum field theory, must be cosmopsychist rather than micropsychist.

Source: spectral-panpsychism/ch3 — the full argument this claim compresses

If the intrinsic aspect is total and the field admits no canonical decomposition, the phenomenal whole is prior to phenomenal parts. Subjects are quotients, not sums.

The combination problem is not solved but dissolved: it presupposes separable micro-parts with independently specifiable states, and c-typeiii says there are none. The cost is that cosmopsychism inherits the mirror-image decomposition problem.

This claim

depends-on Local algebras in relativistic QFT are type III-1 factors, so they contain no minimal projections and admit no normal pure states.
depends-on The intrinsic aspect of every physical state is phenomenal, without exception.

Moves against it

refutes The split property makes the states of nested regions independently preparable, which is exactly the structure Chapter 3 says quantum field theory does not supply.
refutes A type III-1 factor is algebraically simple and every corner of it is isomorphic to it, so 'subjects are quotients of the whole' names no operation in the algebra Corollary 3.2 cites.
refutes Noncanonical subsystem structure does not entail the phenomenal priority of the whole.
depends-on Dissolving the combination problem incurs a decomposition problem that the corpus has not discharged.
refines Dissolving the combination problem incurs a decomposition problem that the corpus has not discharged.
refines Type III-1 supplies no intrinsic magnitude relation between whole and part, so priority monism as stated in Corollary 3.2 has no algebraic content.
